Welcome Ravooor!
In this edition, we present arguably the greatest DJ of all time: Eric Sheridan Prydz.
Prydz has three primary aliases, covering different styles/genres of EDM:
Eric Prydz - Festival Prydz. Generally his more commercially accessible releases; big songs that would be well received by a mainstage crowd. Progressive anthems.
Pryda - Club Prydz. Dancy, melodic progressive house for true fans. This alias has more releases than the other two.
Cirez D - Underground Prydz. Darker, percussion heavy tracks with a techno slant.
The aliases do have some overlap ofc: some Pryda songs have more of a Prydz feel, some Cirez D songs could be Pryda (Cirez P, PryDa), etc.
We initially were only going to create one big playlist (still did lol), but felt the urge to introduce each alias rather than start you off with a 62 song tracklist. Hence, three new playlists to start you off.
Note: decided to make them sound specific. There are some Pryda releases in both the Eric Prydz and the Cirez D playlists.
We recommend starting with the EPIC playlist if you’ve never listened to Mr. Prydz. EPIC stands for Eric Prydz In Concert, referring to his live shows. This playlist includes most of his “big” songs. The author’s favorite tracks in this one are Allein, 2Night, Tether, and Midnight City.
Then, we delve into PRYDA. Long buildups, uplifting and melody focused. Author’s favorites include Miami to Atlanta, Javlar and Melo.
A radical departure. Hardcore fans love Cirez D. Tracks that simply go hard. Favorite’s include Sunburst, Rotonda, IN THE REDS, and On Off.
And finally, the big one. 8 hours of tracks, all elite.
We looked into the way Eric structures his sets, so you can listen to these playlists in the track order presented. Or skip around if you’d like.
LIVE
Eric and his team put on some of the world’s best live shows: HOLO. They use layers of transparent LED screens (which Prydz DJs between) to create radical hologram-like visuals synced with his music.
RAVE stands for Radical Audio Visual Experience, and HOLO is probably the best encapsulation of it.
Check out his Instagram for short clips of HOLO. There’s also plenty of recording of HOLO on YouTube. The one linked below is from a HOLO set he did in NYC a few weeks ago. “Pjanoo → Allein w/ Viro” from 1:22:50-1:33:30 is our favorite mashup of all time, with the iconic outstretched-hand visual.
If you’re even remotely interested in this type of music, we think it’s well worth it to see HOLO in person.
PRYDA Club Set
Eric will often play a more intimate set at a city’s main EDM club after getting done with a festival set. The environment and longer set time allow him to be more creative with track selection: a lot more lesser known and unreleased songs than a festival set.
Hardcore fans will tell you Club Sets >>> Festival Sets.
We think it is worthwhile to see a club set if given the chance. We’ll link to some club sets below:
Space Miami 2021 (round 1)- YouTube, Soundcloud
Brooklyn Mirage 2021 Electric Zoo Afterparty- YouTube, Soundcloud
Note: Go to 55:57 for a special track he rarely ever plays live. It sounds INCREDIBLE!
Radius Chicago ARC Afterparty 2021- YouTube, Soundcloud
Unreleased Tracks and IDs
An unfortunate part of being a Prydz fan is a large part of his catalogue are tracks with no release date in sight. This includes some of his best work. Here are our favorites:
Pryda - HOLO Tomorrowland 2022 Intro ID - YouTube (first song, 0:00-7:25), Soundcloud (reconstruction, couldn’t find anything else)
Unfortunately can’t find a good standalone version of this track. Which is a shame, because it might be his best song
Eric Prydz - 2003 ID - YouTube (1:12-1:18)
A track he’s only played live three times total
Pryda - Craft - YouTube, Soundcloud
Pryda - Day Before Miami - YouTube, Soundcloud
Pryda - Level 99 - YouTube, Soundcloud
Cirez D - Exit ID - YouTube, Soundcloud
Pryda - Medola - YouTube, Soundcloud
Pryda - HOLO 2022 ID 01 - YouTube, Soundcloud (remake)
Pryda - Tomorrowland 2018 ID 02 - YouTube, Soundcloud
Best Sets?
His two best sets are generally considered…
Tomorrowland 2018 - YouTube, Soundcloud
2013 Essential Mix - YouTube, Soundcloud
Eric’s mixing is so good that a large part of the set feels like one single song
However, we’d also throw in…
Ultra Miami 2013 - YouTube, Soundcloud
Creamfields 2022 - YouTube, Soundcloud
Best Songs, IMO
Pryda - Mirage
Pryda - Miami to Atlanta
Pryda - Rotonda
Pryda - 2night
Pryda - Javlar
Pryda - Sunburst
Eric Prydz - Pjanoo (Eric’s Intro Edit)
Pryda - Allein
Pryda - Melo (Eric’s Special Edit)
Eric Prydz - Not Going Home 2.0
Eric Prydz - Opus
Had to throw in Opus to close it out, IYKYK.
Enjoy the music! Until next time…
He's back!!! 🍝
